According to our research* most brokers are finding it hard to fill job vacancies – a problem that’s undoubtedly hindering your ability to grow.
So what can you do about this? Well, a good place to start is our checklist below:
Ten highly effective staff recruitment tactics
- Feature a ‘We’re hiring!’ link on your website homepage
This is one of the easiest and most cost-effective (as well as under-used) ways to recruit.
- Announce the start of your employee ‘new staff referral programme’
This can also be particularly effective so is certainly worth considering.
- Check that your recruitment programme is mobile-friendly
This is so important if you want a successful campaign so please view these action points to implement.
- Check that you know what applicants most want from the job
Once you know what your job seekers are most interested in, then you’ll know what to prominently feature on your job ad.
- Promote the positive culture and working environment in your office
It’s important to position your company as a great place to work.
- Positive company values are equally important
Use LinkedIn and your website to promote your company’s values and attitudes towards diversity, equality and inclusion.
- Keep the application process simple and straightforward
If applying isn’t intuitive, then many of your applicants will quickly give up.
- ‘Fish where the fish are’ (i.e. on social media)
Most applicants will (to some extent) rely on social media when moving jobs.
- Consider local sources of young talent
Approach for example, soon-to-be graduates from a nearby university or college. Also local schools could direct you to a good sixth form candidate for an apprenticeship.
- Finally, also consider sources of non-traditional hires
Thinking laterally can sometimes be the best method of finding the ideal recruit.
